Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Announces Captains For 2022 Season

Brett Funk, Brayden Peck, and Brian Townsend will serve as Penn State men’s lacrosse’s team captains this season.

Funk, Peck, and Townsend will fill the shoes of attackman Mac O’Keefe and defenseman Nick Cardile, who both graduated last season.

“Our staff is excited to announce the captains of the 2022 Penn State men’s lacrosse team,” said head coach Jeff Tambroni. “Brayden, Brian, and Brett have been tremendous role models on and off the field, and we are confident that they will continue to lead with character, compassion, and courage.”

Funk started 16 games for the Nittany Lions over the past two seasons and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. He posted career-highs in ground balls (12) and caused turnovers (4) in Penn State’s shortened 2021 season.

Also a part of the defense, Peck has earned three Academic All-Big Ten honors and has 42 starts under his belt. He returns to Penn State using his extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic. He tallied career-highs in ground balls (16) and caused turnovers (7) in 2019, which was the last full season that’s been played.

Townsend, a midfielder, earns the captain title and the chance to don the prestigious No. 16 jersey after missing last season with an injury. Cardile, the former captain gave him his blessing to wear it this season. Townsend’s competitive attitude, combined with his work ethic and on-the-field production, makes him an obvious candidate.

The three seniors were all a part of Penn State’s first-ever Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles in 2019. They will aim to lead this year’s squad in that direction during what will be the team’s first full-length season since then.
