Jahan Dotson, Ji’Ayir Brown Earn Weekly Big Ten Accolades

Penn State’s Jahan Dotson and Ji’Ayir Brown earned the Big Ten’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference Monday.

This is the first time since 2017 that Penn State has had weekly award recipients on offense and defense in the same week. Saquon Barkley and Jason Cabinda formed the last duo to accomplish it.

Dotson was recognized alongside Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell. This is Dotson’s first conference honor of the season and the second of his career, with his first coming against Michigan State last year as Special Teams Player of the Week.

Against Maryland, Dotson had a record-setting career day and was instrumental in Penn State’s 31-14 win. On 11 catches, Dotson accumulated 242 yards, a school record for most in a single game. His 11 catches and three touchdowns in the game tied career-highs.

Dotson’s season total of 932 receiving yards is now eleventh in the country. He also has 22 career receiving touchdowns, which ties him with Deon Butler for third-most in Penn State history, only three behind No. 2 Kenny Jackson’s 25.

Defensive back Ji’Ayir Brown was similarly honored after Week Ten. This is Brown’s first career conference accolade.

Brown’s acknowledgment comes after his dominant defensive performance against Maryland. He totaled nine tackles and secured a pair of turnovers — a fumble recovery and a pick-six.

The senior now has 48 tackles and six turnovers on the season. Brown’s four interceptions are the most in the Big Ten. Additionally, Brown is the first Nittany Lion with at least four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in a season since Alan Zemaitis in 2005.

Both Dotson and Brown will have a chance to perform at a high level yet again when the Nittany Lions host the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, November 13. Kickoff is set for noon on ABC.
