Penn State Women’s Soccer To Open NCAA Tournament Against Monmouth

The NCAA Selection Committee has decided that the Penn State women’s soccer show will go on. Erica Dambach’s side was selected into the 64-team field and will host Monmouth in the first round.

Should the Nittany Lions win in the first hurdle at Jeffrey Field, they would face the winner of Grand Canyon and No. 3 seed USC in the second round. No. 2 seed UNC would also loom further down the road.

Penn State will host the Hawks any time from this Friday to Sunday. Currently, the broadcast time and date remain to-be-determined, but the Nittany Lions will host at Jeffrey Field.

Penn State was one of six Big Ten teams to qualify for the national tournament. Rutgers was one of four No. 1 seeds and will face Bucknell, while Big Ten champion Michigan earned a No. 2 spot and will host Bowling Green. Ohio State (vs. Virginia Tech), Purdue (vs. Loyola Chicago), and Wisconsin (vs. Butler) rounded out the conference’s participation in this year’s tournament.

This is the Nittany Lions’ 27th straight appearance at the NCAA showcase, which is currently the longest streak in the nation.

Penn State made it to the Sweet Sixteen last spring after defeating Alabama State and No. 16 Vanderbilt. Sam Coffey and Co. were defeated by overall No. 1 Florida State despite taking an early lead.
