Penn State Football Commit Nicholas Singleton Named Gatorade Pennsylvania Football Player Of The Year

Penn State football class of 2022 commit Nicholas Singleton just capped off an impressive senior year by adding one of the country’s top high school football accolades to his resume.

The running back was named Gatorade Pennsylvania High School Football Player of the Year Tuesday, he announced on Twitter.

According to Gatorade, the award is annually presented to “the nation’s most outstanding high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.” Gatorade has recognized 51 student-athletes, one from each state and the District of Columbia, each year since 1986.

Singleton will now be in the running for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year Award, which will be announced at a to-be-determined date later this month. He appears to be the first future Nittany Lion to win the state award since Jake Zembiec and Danny Dalton did in late 2015.

After posting a monster year fit with 41 touchdowns and more than 2,000 rushing yards, it’s no surprise he took this award home in Pennsylvania. He’s listed as the state’s No. 1 prospect and the country’s No. 1 running back by 247Sports, claiming a five-star rating.

The Governor Mifflin High School product is the only Penn State commit to receive the award this year. Quarterback Drew Allar was edged out by future Buckeye linebacker Gabe Powers in Ohio and Oklahoma commit Derrick Moore took the award over defensive lineman Dani Dennis-Sutton in Maryland.

Singleton is just one member of James Franklin’s impressive 2022 class, which has risen as high as No. 1 in the nation. Dennis-Sutton, receiver Kaden Saunders, offensive lineman Drew Shelton, and Allar are among the other top commits in the class.
