Dominic Fike Proves He’s ‘King Of Everything’ In SPA Concert

Singer-songwriter and “Euphoria” actor Dominic Fike performed at Alumni Hall on Friday night in front of an energetic, sold-out crowd. For days, lines wrapped around the HUB for free tickets to the event hosted by Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA).

Fike emerged to the stage with “Come Here” and started the night with fan-favorite “Babydoll,” which got the crowd lively and enthusiastic. He sported a blue-green hair color, “I am a professional. Do not try this at home” graphic t-shirt, and gray carpenter pants.

The musician told the crowd that his mother is from Pittsburgh, which made the audience erupt in cheers. He went to Sheetz and saw the $10 all-you-can-eat fries for a month deal, so now he knows “why [his] mom is the way that [she] is.” Following the Sheetz discussion, Fike led a loud “We Are!’ cheer.

The next song of the night was “Phone Numbers,” a ~vibey~ Fike classic. Fike then performed a unique, higher-pitch version of “Chicken Tenders,” which the audience cheered for throughout the entire song.

The next two songs the crowd jammed out to were “Double Negative” and Paul McCartney’s “The Kiss Of Venus.” Fike gave the crowd a throwback to the beginning of his career with a mellow performance of “She Wants My Money.”

Fike showed off his vocal abilities with “Acai Bowl,” which was a smoother version of the popular track.

A woman yelled, “You’re so hot!” during a quieter moment in-between songs, which made the crowd erupt into cheers and laughter. “Politics & Violence,” “Wurli,” and “Why” were the next three performances.

Later, Fike took a moment to ask how the crowd was doing while navigating COVID-19.

“We’ll see what happens. There’s a lot going on in the world. The world’s already fucked up,” Fike said. “Let’s just have a good time tonight and worry about that later.”

Performances of “Falling Asleep,” unreleased “Frisky,” “Maniac,” and “Batshit” followed.

Fike explained that he has been working on making his set longer since everyone knows all of his songs since they’ve been out for a while. He also told the audience that a new album will soon be in the works.

“After this, I’m going to retreat to the woods again to make another one of these albums,” Fike said. “You have your whole life to make your first album and one year to make your second. But, that wasn’t the case because my fans are so fucking great. But, I owe you one, so I’ll retreat to the woods right after this.”

Fike sang dynamic “Westcoast Collective,” which highlighted his smooth-yet-raspy voice and guitar expertise. The crowd chanted “Chug! Chug! Chug!” as he took a sip of water. Fike laughed that that’s how he knows he’s in a college town.

“Whose dorm are we turning up in tonight?” Fike asked the crowd to get it rowdy again.

Fike sang “Vampire” before the much-anticipated “3 Nights.” The audience went wild for Fike’s most popular track and bounced around with the easy-on-the-ears, beachy track.

On Friday night, Fike provided Penn State with the ultimate live performance treatment with unique spins on his most popular songs and a look into his dynamic, razor-sharp guitar abilities. Fike gave the audience a listen into his smooth vocals and generated anticipation for his early-stage album.
