The divisional round of the NFL playoffs is over, and man, what a weekend of games! Every matchup came down to the wire, and a handful of former Penn State football stars made a big impact.

From game-winning field goals to key interceptions, let’s take a look at how some Nittany Lions fared in this weekend’s NFL action.

Robbie Gould

If one made a list of the most clutch plays a Penn Stater ever made in the NFL, this would probably be one of ’em. Gould’s 49ers were tied 10-10 against the Packers with just a few seconds remaining in the fourth quarter after a defensive slugfest between two of the league’s greatest franchises, in which Gould already had one field goal. The frigid climate up in Green Bay made for tundra-like conditions at Lambeau Field, which certainly didn’t help the action get rolling.

With just seconds remaining in the game, out trotted Gould, who kicked at Penn State from 2001 to 2004. From the 35-yard line, Gould sent the ball through the goalposts, silencing the crowd at Lambeau Field and completing a shocking upset over the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

Even more impressive, Gould has never missed a kick in his playoffs career. So far, he’s 20-for-20 on field-goal attempts and 32-for-32 on extra points. Sheesh!

Next, Gould and the 49ers will travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

Adrian Amos

Although the Packers didn’t win this weekend, former Penn State defensive back Adrian Amos played a nice game. He secured a clutch interception late in the first half to keep Green Bay up 7-0.

Amos also posted five tackles this weekend, two of which were unassisted. Amos, who played at Penn State from 2011 to 2014, finished his season with 98 tackles and three interceptions. He’ll hope to continue that momentum next fall as his four-year contract nears its expiration.

Nick Scott

Rams safety Nick Scott picked off Tom Brady in Los Angeles’ takedown of the then-defending Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The play happened late in the second quarter when Brady tried to throw the ball to Rob Gronkowski but fell victim to a sneaky Scott.

Scott intercepted the ball around the 30-yard line, which gave the Rams a comfortable lead at halftime. It was an important play of the game, especially since the Buccaneers wound up tying things 27-27 with seconds to go. Who knows what might’ve happened with that pick!

The Rams will host the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next weekend.
