On(Wordle) State: The Ultimate Penn State Word-Guessing Game

If you’ve been living under a rock for the start of 2022, you probably don’t know anything about Wordle. It’s a new word game that has taken the world by storm with hundreds of thousands of players posting their scores on social media platforms daily.

Wordle, released to the public by software engineer Josh Wardle in October 2021, recently made a splash in the news when it was sold to The New York Times for a price figure in the “low seven figures.” Pocket change!

So, how does the game work? There are three different colored tiles the game uses:

  • Gray, which tells the player that the corresponding letter is not included in the final word.
  • Yellow, which tells the player that the letter is included in the final word, but it is not in the correct spot.
  • Green, which tells the player that the letter included is in the final word and is in the correct spot.

You get six guesses of five-letter words to try and get all tiles to turn green.

To pair the game with our love for Dear Old State, we’ve gone ahead and crafted some Penn State-related Wordles that will test your skills. Give ’em a shot and see how you fare:

If you’re looking for an increased challenge, check out a handful of Penn State-related Wordles that aren’t five letters:

One more…It’s a doozy at first glance, but we think you can do it.

So, how’d you do? Let us know in the comments!
