Onward Chef: Homemade Penn State Cocktails

Are you looking to impress your guests this State Patty’s Day? Did you watch a few “Tipsy Bartender” videos and are feeling adventurous? Maybe you’re anxious about midterms and want to make a cool drink to cheer you up? We’ve got the drinks for you.

In preparation for this State Patty’s Day, we here at Onward State mixed up some fun, effective drinks that will help make your college drinking holiday that much more fun. Of course, you must be 21 or older to enjoy ’em.

The Willard Preacher

To make this color-changing beauty, you’ll need cranberry juice, a shot of vodka, a shot of blue curacao (layered here if you’re feeling confident), and any kind of fruit punch (we used the blue Hawaiian Punch). This red and blue masterpiece pays homage to Gary’s iconic look and is a reminder that you’re a sinner if you drink while underage.

The Blue Blitz

This little number is sure to keep the good times rolling all weekend long. All you’ll need is a shot of rum, a shot of blue curacao, and your favorite juice. You can even try orange juice or pineapple juice to mix it up. The world is your oyster on this one.

The blue, of course, signifies the very school we attend. Go State!

The Shortlidge Sunrise

What better day to commemorate stumbling up the worst hill on campus than State Patty’s? All you’ll need is a shot and a half of your favorite tequila (if we’re being honest, the cheapest tequila), half a shot of grenadine, and some lemonade. Grab a reusable straw if you’re set on saving any turtles while you drink.

The Walking Buddy

You know what, not everything in life needs to be so complicated. Sometimes, you want a nice combo that you can take with you to your favorite daylong and just relax.

Well, if you need a green walking buddy this State Patty’s, might we recommend you try the little-known combo of Pink Whitney and Mountain Dew? The lemonade vodka, as well as the lemon and lime flavors of the soda counterpart, go well together. Most importantly, it hides most of the alcohol.

So, what’re you going to be mixing up this State Patty’s Day? Whether you are a true mixologist or if you’re going to stick to cans, be sure to have a fun and safe holiday — no matter what’s in your Patty’s Punch.
