How Did Dancers Recover After THON 2022?

A week has passed since THON 2022 came to an emphatic end, leaving hundreds of students and volunteers tired as all hell.

So, how does your body recover after a weekend of no sitting or sleeping? Do you skip class? Sleep for 24 hours? Maybe take a shower?

Last week, we asked dancers these questions, and it turns out there are plenty of ways that folks recover. From sleeping in to hitting the bars, it seems that everyone has their own paths to recovery once 46 hours are up.

John Arentz

“I went for a walk on Monday during the nice weather and then did a quick bodyweight workout, some yoga, and took a couple of naps. I felt pretty good right away on Monday…not too sore.”

Holly Maitland-McKenna

“Ice baths and massages. I went to work the next day and taught water fitness. The key is to keep moving! Avoid salty foods so your ankles don’t swell! Did I mention…KEEP MOVING!?”

Caitlyn Longenecker

“Immediately after THON, I ate a big meal and then went to sleep! I woke up at my normal ‘wake up for class’ time with minimal pain, so I spent the day recuperating, reflecting and journaling about the weekend, hydrating, and continuing to stretch out of habit.”

“I would definitely take it easy and maybe go on a short walk if you are looking for exercise. But until you are back to your normal amount of nutritional intake, there is the potential to overdo it and start to feel sick. I felt great after one day of recuperation and readjusting to my routine!”

Gianna Corpora

“I made sure to eat dinner as soon as I got home and took a shower so that I could sleep for the next 12 hours. Still, make sure someone checks on you when showering to avoid falling/sleeping. The next day is all about staying hydrated and eating full meals to get your body back into your normal routine. Once I could get my body back into my regular school and eating schedule, I felt normal.”

Emily Treesh-Colon

“Sleep, coffee, and aloe socks worked wonders. You should definitely avoid giving an hour-long presentation the Tuesday after THON. Your classmates will ask you why you’re leaning against the wall like a 70s cool kid.”

Jonathan Eyer

“The best way to recover after THON Weekend is getting together with all your friends and hitting the bars to celebrate the amazing work we did. Definitely skip class the next day or two if you can, too.”

Anonymous ATO Dancer

“I got the best blowjob after THON. Put me right the f*ck to sleep. I haven’t slept that good since before I was born.”

Congrats, man.
