Penn State Announces Raised Parking Rates For Students & Employees

On Thursday, Penn State announced two phases of increases for parking rates starting with the 2022-23 academic year. Employee parking rates will increase from between $2 to 4 per month, while student parking rates will rise between $8 and 30 per semester.

Penn State said the increased parking rates will help the university combat rising infrastructure costs.

“While every effort is made to keep rates as low as possible, the upcoming rate increases are critical to seeing that Transportation Services can continue to meet the parking and transportation needs of the University community,” said Sara Thorndike, senior vice president for Finance and Business and treasurer.

The university announced raises for six employee permits (notably employee core permits), Here’s a quick look at the rates for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years, in Penn State’s own words:

Likewise, student parking rates are expected to increase, too. They’ll follow a similar schedule with price bumps next fall and in 2023.

Additionally, Penn State said it will cancel evening and weekend-only permits starting June 30. Information on parking options for those who use the program will be announced before June 1.

More details regarding Penn State’s parking increases are available online. Those with questions can reach out to Penn State Transportation Services online or by email at parking@psu.edu.
