Former Penn State safety Troy Apke re-signed with the Washington Commanders Sunday night, according to his agent.

Apke will reportedly return to Washington on a one-year deal. The Nittany Lion has spent his entire career with the Commanders since being drafted to Washington in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Across his professional career, Apke has made appearances in 50 games and started nine.

Despite not boasting eye-catching numbers, Apke carved out a prominent role on Washington’s special teams unit after transitioning to cornerback. In four seasons, Apke recorded 68 tackles, four pass defenses, and an interception.

At Penn State, Apke played four seasons, including the Nittany Lions’ 2016 Big Ten championship-winning campaign. Across 44 games in Happy Valley, Apke totaled 111 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick.

Apke finished his senior season by earning All-Big Ten honorable mention honors. He was later invited to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where he was subsequently named MVP after recording seven tackles, a forced fumble, and a 56-yard interception.
