Pennsylvania Speaker Of The House To Host Virtual Lecture At Penn State

Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Bryan Cutler will speak to Penn State students through a virtual lecture at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16. The event is hosted as part of the School of Public Policy’s “Policy Profiles” series.

Cutler, a Republican from Lancaster County, entered government work following experiences with his parents’ health. Both of Cutler’s parents were diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. This diagnosis and Cutler’s place as their caretaker led him to employment in hospital administration.

Cutler graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in health care management. From there, he pursued a law degree with a focus in health care law at Widener Law School.

Cutler then chose to pursue a position in public office in 2006, when he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. During his time in office, Cutler has focused on health care policy, specifically in making hospitals more efficient in their care and overall better serve patients.

Cutler served as the majority leader in the House beginning in December 2018. Following this, Cutler was then voted by his fellow Representatives to become the Speaker of the House in June 2020, a position that he holds today.

Cutler’s lecture will focus on his motivation in running for office and his career path in government. Interested students and alumni should register for the webinar prior to Wednesday to receive the Zoom link.
