Reports: DaeSean Hamilton & Ryan Bates Sign New NFL Deals In Free Agency

Former Penn State wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton has signed a contract with the Houston Texans, while offensive lineman Ryan Bates inked a long-term deal to remain with the Buffalo Bills.

The Texans announced Hamilton’s official signing on their Twitter account Monday afternoon.

Hamilton was selected by the Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Across three seasons in the Mile High City, he posted 833 total yards in 46 games played. He did not play in 2021 after he tore a ligament in his knee and was subsequently released by the team.

Hamilton was a four-year starter for Penn State from 2014 to 2017. He is perhaps best known for his performance in the 2016 Big Ten title game against Wisconsin, during which he posted eight catches for 118 yards in Penn State’s landmark win.

Meanwhile, Bates reportedly signed a new deal with the Bills for four years and $17 million, with the first two years and $8.8 million fully guaranteed.

Restricted free agents like Bates can field offers from other teams, but their previous team is given the opportunity to match the highest offer on the market and automatically secure the player’s return. The Bills reportedly brought back Bates after they matched a contract offered by the Chicago Bears.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed Bates as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and soon traded him to Buffalo. He became a starter for the Bills at the end of the 2021 season and has played in 41 games across his career.

After redshirting during his first year on campus, Bates started 37 games over three years for the Nittany Lions. He earned third-team All-Big Ten honors twice across his college career.
