Former Penn State Hoops Guard Jamari Wheeler Declares For 2022 NBA Draft
Former Penn State men’s basketball guard Jamari Wheeler is heading to the 2022 NBA Draft after spending his fifth year of eligibility at Ohio State.
“Being able to play in March Madness really was a dream come true,” Wheeler said on Instagram. “With that being said, I will chase my dream and pursue a professional basketball career.”
Wheeler spent four years at Penn State and finished his Nittany Lions career ranked sixth in program history in career steals (191). The Florida native averaged 6.8 points per game in his final season in Happy Valley and played in all 25 games.
Wheeler started 31 of 32 games for the Buckeyes this past season and helped send Ohio State to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. While playing in Columbus, Wheeler averaged 7.1 points and 29.5 minutes per game.
The Nittany Lions lost both regular-season games to Wheeler and Ohio State this season. However, Penn State managed to upset the Buckeyes to move on to the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals earlier this month.
The 2022 NBA Draft is slated for Thursday, June 23. The former Nittany Lion can expect to see fellow Penn State transfer Izaiah Brockington among the hopeful professional prospects.
