Penn State Flips Three-Star Tight End Andrew Rappleyea From Michigan

Penn State football improved its 2023 recruiting class on Sunday by prying away a prospect from its rival in Ann Arbor.

On Sunday morning, three-star Class of 2023 tight end Andrew Rappleyea said he’d committed to the Nittany Lions after previously pledging allegiance to Michigan. The 6’4″, 215-pound prospect had also received offers from Boston College, Colorado, Duke, and UConn, among others.

“Michigan is a great place with great people, but the reality is I committed too quickly and take full responsibility for that,” Rappleyea wrote in a statement. “I have come to realize that my heart is at Penn State…I’m excited about matriculating at Penn State and playing football four hours from my home.”

Rappleyea, a native of Milton, Massachusetts, plays high school ball with the Milton Academy Mustangs. According to 247Sports, he’s ranked the No. 5 Class of 2023 prospect in Massachusetts and the No. 19 tight end in his recruiting class.

Rappleyea is now the eighth recruit to join Penn State’s Class of 2023, which still ranks highest in the Big Ten and No. 5 in the country, per 247Sports. Rappleyea joins fellow three-star tight end Joey Schlaffer in the Nittany Lions’ 2023 class, which is headlined by five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier.

Check out Rappleyea’s tape to see what he could bring to Happy Valley in a few short years.
