After leading Penn State softball to an impressive 4-0 record, catcher Ally Kurland is this week’s Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Kurland filled the stat sheet with a .583 batting average, three home runs, and eight RBIs across the team’s four games. She’s the first Nittany Lion to win the award since Alyssa VanDerveer won it back in 2015.

In the first game against Purdue on Saturday, Kurland went an impressive 2-for-4 at the plate with two homers and five RBIs. With her two home runs, she tied the school record for the most dingers in a single game. Kurland also became the seventh Nittany Lion ever to have five RBIs in one game.

Kurland’s week added to an already impressive season for the senior. To this point, she leads the Nittany Lions in home runs and RBIs, with 13 and 33, respectively. Her 13 homers rank No. 3 in the Big Ten and are the tenth-most in Division I softball.

Kurland and the team will travel to Michigan this weekend for a three-game series against the Wolverines. Game one in Ann Arbor is set for 4 p.m. and can be streamed on BTN+.
