Penn State Hoops’ Coaches Vs. Cancer Golf Tournament Scheduled For June 3

Penn State men’s basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry is slated to host this year’s rendition of the Coaches vs. Cancer Penn State Golf Tournament in just a few short weeks.

The 25th annual tournament is set to be held on Friday, June 3 at the Penn State Golf Courses. Registration is open online through Friday, May 20.

On June 2, the eve of the tournament’s opening swing, a sponsors and captains reception will take place at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and feature food, drinks, live music, and more. Additionally, an awards dinner will follow after the tournament’s conclusion the following evening.

The weekend slate will also include an online auction of items and experiences set up weeks in advance, with all benefits going to Penn State Coaches vs. Cancer.

As for the tournament itself, the five-player, 18-hole event usually attracts over 300 golfers, sponsors, and sports figureheads from across the region. In addition Shrewsberry hosting, this year’s event will feature the Penn State men’s basketball coaching staff along with other current and former Penn State coaches, athletes, and department leaders, all of whom will join golfers on the course.

Coaches vs. Cancer holds events throughout the year to raise money for the American Cancer Society. After the golf tournament’s absence in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s back at Penn State for a second straight go-around.

Penn State’s Coaches vs. Cancer chapter has raised more than $3.5 million since 1997. Its golf tournament helped bring in about $2 million of that charitable chunk.
