Penn State Hoops’ Sam Sessoms Transfers To Coppin State

Former Penn State men’s basketball guard Sam Sessoms announced that he’ll transfer to Coppin State to continue his athletic career.

Sessoms had previously announced his entrance into the NCAA transfer portal in March. The former Nittany Lion has one year of eligibility remaining.

“Don’t question my decision,” Sessoms wrote in his announcement on social media. “Just back my next move. I’m doing this for me, not for no one else.”

Coppin State, a Maryland university playing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, most recently finished the 2021-22 season with a dismal 9-23 record, though the team embarked on an improbable run to the conference finals in the MEAC tournament. Coppin State’s Cinderella run came to an end in a 72-57 loss to Norfolk State.

In his Penn State career, Sessoms played in 55 games and averaged 10.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. The Philadelphia native logged an average of 24.6 minutes per game.

After transferring from Binghamton with promise, Sessoms was relegated to a bench role by the middle of the Nittany Lions’ 2021-2022 season after leading the squad in turnovers. Toward the end of the season, Sessoms rediscovered his footing and worked his way back into playing strong minutes.
