Fitz & The Tantrums Makes The Crowd’s ‘HandClap’ At Movin’ On

Indie pop band Fitz & The Tantrums got the Movin’ On music festival crowd dancing at IM Fields early Friday evening.

The band started off the set with songs like “OCD” and “Spark” setting the atmosphere with their groovy and energetic sound.

“What’s happening? How’s everybody doing?” asked Michael Fitzpatrick, the band’s lead singer. “Is this the first Movin’ On in three years? Hell yes!”

The band then played one of its hits, “Out of My League” off of the 2013 album “More Than Just a Dream”, which featured an electrifying saxophone solo. After, Fitzpatrick had some advice for students regarding finals week: “Don’t fuck it up!”

Fitz & The Tantrums followed suit with “123456,” “Fool,” and “Livin’ for the Weekend.” In between songs, co-lead singer, Noelle Scaggs gave her praise to the Class of 2022 on their last day of classes.

“This is for the graduating class. You are heading into the world right now, and I am so proud of this generation right now,” Scaggs said. “We are so thankful to be in front of you on your last day.”

“I Need Help” followed, accompanied by “Fools Gold”, and “House On Fire”. The singer dedicated “I Just Wanna Shine” to the audience. The song got hands in the air and excited the audience with the momentum-building ending.

The group took a brief pause to make sure an audience member was safe. During the pause, Fitzpatrick congratulated the Class of 2020, who returned for a full slate of commencement events this weekend.

Fitz & The Tantrums resumed with one of their more popular songs, “HandClap”, which was met with excited cheers from the audience. Despite minor audio issues, Fitzpatrick kept the crowd clapping and dancing the entire time.

Fitzpatrick thanked Penn State for making Fitz & The Tantrums the first band to play Movin’ On twice. The group originally performed at the festival in 2014.

Perhaps fitting, the group closed by performing one of its biggest hits, “The Walker”.
