Lady Lions Add Transfer Guard Ivane Tensaie

Penn State women’s basketball has officially added guard Ivane Tensaie to the squad, the team announced Thursday morning.

Tensaie, who verbally committed to Penn State last month, was one of two players to officially become Lady Lions Thursday, joining guard Alexa Williamson, who announced her commitment to Carolyn Kieger’s program a few weeks ago.

Tensaie comes to Penn State after an impressive season at North Dakota State School of Science. The Minnesota native averaged 20.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the field. She was named NJCAA Freshman Player of the Year, All-Region Player of the Year, and was a first-team All-Conference and All-Region honoree.

She led the Wildcats to a District Championship victory, as well as an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament, during her lone season with the program.

“I am thrilled for Ivane to join our Penn State family,” Kieger said. “She is a knock-down shooter who has proven to hit shots at an elite level. She immediately gives us another threat for the guard position that can score from all three levels and spread the floor. Her basketball ability is elite and her character and desire to improve are contagious. I cannot wait to get her to campus!”

While the team has yet to officially announce it, Tensaie and Williamson will be joined in Happy Valley by fellow transfer Chanaya Pinto. Pinto, who spent the 2021-22 season with the Oregon Ducks, announced on April 27 that she’d be joining the Lady Lions.
