Penn State’s Spring 2022 Commencement Weekend Weather Forecast

It’s finally time for the weekend seniors have been anxiously waiting for, folks. With such a thrilling new start on the horizon, some unpleasant weather is first heading to Happy Valley.

No need to fret, though! Luckily, all ceremonies will be held at indoor locations. Whether there’s rain or shine, you’ll still be able to enjoy graduation without having to worry too much. Pack an umbrella for your travels, but anticipate a weekend full of celebration.

To prepare for the jam-packed weekend, let’s take a look at the latest forecasts for graduation.

Friday, May 6

Friday’s temperature should top out at around 56 degrees, according to AccuWeather. Expect a cooler day with a 94% chance of precipitation and up to an inch of rain. There will be wind gusts of 8 mph and a 99% chance of cloud coverage. They always say taking photos is preferred in an overcast setting, anyway!

For the ceremonies taking place Friday, some precipitation won’t take away from the special day.

Saturday, May 7

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Saturday’s going to get any better. With a ~comfortable~ high of 49 degrees, make sure to grab a jacket for the occasional rain and drizzle when heading to your ceremony. With an 85% chance of precipitation, expect another not-so-dry day.

Saturday is a busy day for college graduates, so stay prepared with proper attire and accessories when traveling to Pegula Ice Arena, the Bryce Jordan Center, or Eisenhower Auditorium.

Sunday, May 8

To close out the celebratory weekend, sunshine and a few clouds finally make an appearance. With a high of 55 degrees on Sunday, we have the luxury of a real-feel temperature of 64 degrees. Additionally, there is a 1% chance of precipitation, which is music to every graduate’s ears. A brisk 13-mph breeze could make it a bit chilly, but it’s tough to complain when there are sunny skies.

Sunday wraps up the last of the commencement ceremonies, so graduates can enjoy their final moments in a dry, sunny University Park. Better late than never, right?
