Report: Penn State Hoops Alum Calvin Booth To Lead Denver Nuggets’ Basketball Operations

The NBA’s Denver Nuggets are promoting former Penn State men’s basketball player Calvin Booth to the franchise’s head of basketball operations position, according to a report from The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Charania reported that there is “significant belief in Booth inside the organization” and that he’s well-respected across the league.

The move comes amid predecessor Tim Connelly’s departure for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Booth has been serving as the Nuggets’ general manager since July 2020, and it’s currently unclear who will assume the GM responsibilities following his promotion.

As a student-athlete, Booth played four seasons at center for the Nittany Lions from 1995 to 1999. Booth averaged 3.8 blocks and 11.3 points per game throughout his tenure.

After Penn State, Booth went on to be selected by the Washington Wizards in the second round of the 1999 NBA draft. He enjoyed a lengthy 13-year career, which also included tenures with six other teams.

Booth will take over a Nuggets team trying to rebound after a first-round playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors. Booth’s team will expect to contend with players such as Jamal Murray and reigning MVP Nikola Jokic on the roster.
