Four-Star Running Back London Montgomery Commits To Penn State Football

Meet the newest member of the Lawnboyz.

London Montgomery, a four-star running back in the Class of 2023, announced his verbal commitment to Penn State football Monday evening. He is the 17th recruit to commit to the program, three days after Elliot Washington flipped to the Nittany Lions.

Montgomery announced his commitment via Instagram Live from the Scranton Prep gym. He thanked his family, friends, and coaches for helping him along the way.

After a June 17 official visit, Montgomery selected Penn State over Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Michigan, among others.

The Scranton, Pennsylvania native ranks No. 7 among all recruits in the state and is the 27th-highest ranked running back in this recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. This marks the second consecutive year Penn State has successfully wooed Pennsylvania’s top running back recruit.

Montgomery is the sixth Pennsylvanian in the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2023, as head coach James Franklin continues to control the team’s home state.

With his announcement, the Nittany Lions have now secured commitments from four of the top ten recruits in the state, along with No. 13 and No. 20: cornerback Lamont Payne and tight end Joey Schlaffer. Montgomery is set to join Payne, Schlaffer, J’Ven Williams, Jameial Lyons, and Yazeed Haynes in Happy Valley.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 ranks No. 6 in the nation, behind Ohio State, Notre Dame, Clemson, Texas, and Tennessee respectively. Montgomery is currently the Nittany Lions’ only running back committed for 2023.
