Chris Godwin, Micah Parsons Lead Penn Staters’ 2023 Madden Ratings

Early July is like Christmas for fans of “Madden” as official player ratings are now live for nearly every NFL player.

The 2023 version of the game, which is in stores beginning August 19, will allow fans to play as their favorite Nittany Lions stars across NFL rosters. In fact, there are 41 Penn State players in the game.

This year, Chris Godwin is the highest-rated Nittany Lion in the game, closely followed by Micah Parsons and Adrian Amos. For the second year in a row, Trace McSorley is the lowest-rated Nittany Lion.

You can find every player’s official ratings here, but we went ahead and compiled every Penn Stater’s rating.

WR Chris Godwin, 89 Overall

No Penn State players cracked the 90-overall threshold this time around, but Godwin was the closest. The wide receiver’s logged a string of remarkable seasons in Tampa Bay, especially with Tom Brady as his quarterback. He finished last season with a career-high 98 receptions, totaling 1,103 yards and hauling in five touchdowns.

There are several amazing wideouts in the league, so Godwin did not crack the top ten this year. However, he has the seventh-highest rating on the Buccaneers and is the second-highest-rated receiver on the team behind Mike Evans.

ROLB Micah Parsons, 88 Overall

This rating is a controversial one, folks. Many people believe Parsons deserves to be rated higher, and the stats might back that up. He finished his rookie season with 84 total tackles and 13 sacks, while also adding the Defensive Rookie of the Year trophy to his hardware collection.

Despite the questionable rating, he is still one of the top defensive players in the league. He has the fourth-highest ROLB rating, only behind Khalil Mack, Chandler Jones, and Roquan Smith. Parsons also has the sixth-highest rating on the Cowboys and is the second-highest-rated defensive player on the team. The only player higher than him is Demarcus Lawrence.

SS Adrian Amos, 88 Overall

Amos has been one of the most consistent defensive players in the NFL for a while now. The 2021 season led to more career highs for the Nittany Lion, including a career-high 93 total tackles. He also tied his career high in interceptions with two.

He is the seventh-highest-rated strong safety in the game, as well as the seventh-highest-rated player on the Green Bay Packers. The consistency in Amos’ game has been remarkable, as he was near the same spots last year in both categories.

RB Saquon Barkley, 86 Overall

While an 86 overall mark is still impressive, it’s a noticeable decline from last season when Barkley was rated at 90 overall. The running back is still trying to get fully healthy after playing 13 games last season for the first time since 2019. He finished his fourth season in the league with 162 carries for 593 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the lower rating, Barkley is the highest-rated player on the New York Giants. He is a top-15 running back in the game, coming in at No. 14, just behind Kareem Hunt and barely ahead of Cordarelle Patterson and Najee Harris.

TE Mike Gesicki, 86 Overall

The 2021 season was a career year for Gesicki. He set new career highs in receptions (73), targets (112), and yards (780), though he was only able to bring in two touchdowns over the course of the 17-game season.

The career performance led to the seventh-best tight end rating in the game, just barely behind Atlanta Falcons’ star Kyle Pitts. He’s also the fifth-best player on the Dolphins, only behind Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead, Xavien Howard, and Byron Jones.
