Former Penn State Men’s Soccer Player Corey Hertzog Signed By Union Omaha

Corey Hertzog has found a new home with old friends.

The former Penn State men’s soccer player has signed a contract with USL League One side Union Omaha, the club announced on Wednesday. Hertzog joins his former Nittany Lion coaches Jay Mims and Bob Warming in Nebraska.

With Penn State, Hertzog was a standout player. In his three seasons, he played in 66 matches, scoring 33 goals. He gained attention around NCAA and Major League Soccer in 2010 when he led the country in goals scored with 20 and an impressive G/A combination of 46.

After his 2010 performance, Hertzog was drafted in the MLS Superdraft by the New York Red Bulls. Since being drafted, he has spent time with 10 other teams, making his name along the way as the player with the second-most goals in USL Championship history.

Union Omaha recently made American soccer history with a run in the U.S. Open Cup that saw them reach the tournament’s quarterfinal round. This was the first time a third division side had accomplished such a feat since 2013.
