‘Twas The Night Before Classes

Welcome back to campus, folks!

As we wrap up move-in weekend and get tucked in for tomorrow, it’s time to rhyme for the new school year.

Are the Sunday Scaries hitting hard on this very first night? Here’s a quick tale of legend to start the new year off right.

‘Twas the night before classes, when all through downtown,

Not a creature was stirring, the evening wound down.

The backpacks were stacked, by the front door with care.

The k-cup in Keurig, all prepped to prepare.

For the first class of fall, a daunting day’s fate.

Freshmen through seniors, could all hardly wait.

Move-ins moved on, and goodbyes all said,

Now visions of Sylly Week, danced in each head.

High in the sky, a blue moon shone bright.

Calming through campus, a true navy night.

Beyond Mount Nittany, the sun waits to rise.

The summer night waned, through the Lion’s lit eyes.

Atop of Beaver, this emblem glowed white.

Watching and wishing, valley happy, alight.

When out on the lawn, arose such a clatter.

A freshman sprang up, to see what was the matter.

When out in the distance, what was to appear?

More likely we’re asking, “well, what did he hear?”

Chiming and chanting, some bells sang out loud,

A tune from Old Main, tradition quite proud.

A gentle reminder, of hope played in song.

To be shapeless in fate, could never be wrong.

From the first day of firsts, through a full fall of fun,

Up Shortlidge, down Bigler, route’s only just begun!

To greetings in Willard, and days without ends.

To seating in Thomas, and making new friends.

To the lawn of the HUB, on a hot, sunny day.

To joining a club, and finding one’s way.

So keep those eyes open, better yet, your mind, too.

A new year is here, and WE ARE rooting for you!

Good luck this semester, Penn Staters!
