Former Penn State Student Accused Of Raping Woman In Dorm Room

Police on Tuesday charged a New Jersey man for the alleged rape of a fellow Penn State student in April inside her University Park residence hall room.

Jacob S. Tillman, 20, admitted to a Penn State University Police detective that he raped the woman but that he had been too intoxicated to remember it, according to a criminal complaint.

“I want to acknowledge that I raped her, even though I don’t remember the act of doing it, because at this point there is no doubt in my mind that it happened, from everything I remember and from everything she said,” Tillman allegedly told the detective.

The woman and a group of friends met up with Tillman on April 27 at Lion’s Den bar in State College, where he said he used a fraudulent New Jersey driver’s license to gain entry, according to the complaint. He said he consumed several mixed drinks at the bar in addition to shots of vodka he drank before arriving.

Tillman also said he smoked marijuana after leaving the bar, according to the complaint

Police wrote that Tillman and the woman returned to her residence hall in the East Halls complex and, after he began vomiting in the parking, she allowed him to sleep on the floor of her dorm room instead of walking across campus.

The woman told investigators she fell asleep while Tillman was in the bathroom and awoke to him groping her.

Tillman allegedly then sexually assaulted and raped her while she cried and told him “no” and “stop” an estimated 20 times.

The woman said she felt defeated and was unable to escape because Tillman, who is listed in court documents as 6’2″ and 185 pounds, is “substantially larger and stronger than her,” police wrote.

In a text message exchange after the incident, Tillman apologized to the woman and acted “as if he was too drunk to recall the incident,” according to the complaint.

During a phone call with the woman that was recorded by investigators on July 27, Tillman admitted guilt and apologized, police wrote.

In an interview with the Penn State detective on August 23, Tillman allegedly confirmed he sent messages to the woman and a witness admitting his guilt.

“Yeah there is no doubt in my mind that I raped her,” Tillman said in response to a question from the detective, according to the complaint. “I just don’t remember the thought process behind it, the actions or what it looks like or anything.

Tillman is not enrolled at Penn State for the fall semester, a Penn State spokesperson said.

Tillman was charged with felony counts of rape by forcible compulsion, sexual assault aggravated indecent assault, and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.

He was arraigned by District Judge Casey McClain and released on $100,000 unsecured bail .

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 14.
