Fanatics Rolls Out Penn State Football Name-Plated Jerseys

Penn State fans can finally rep their favorite player’s name and number on their backs, as Fanatics has officially debuted its officially licensed name-plated Penn State football jerseys.

Fans can head over to Fanatics to purchase the new merchandise now. One jersey will set you back $139.99. The jersey is Nike-branded using the company’s Dri-FIT technology.

Fanatics allows fans to pick any specific player they want on Penn State’s roster, but the team’s white jersey is the only color available for sale, for now.

Interestingly, Sean Clifford’s name and number don’t appear on the dropdown menu where you select a player’s jersey. According to a Fanatics statement released back in February, players had the chance to “opt-in” to the program, which would then allow fans to go buy their specific jerseys and compensate the players themselves. It’s possible that Clifford didn’t opt in, or his jersey could just be coming soon.

The release of these jerseys is made possible through the new NIL rules that rolled out before the 2021 season, allowing NCAA student-athletes to make money from their personal brands.

Penn State sold non-named-plated player jerseys up until 2014 when the university quietly stopped selling them in the aftermath of the O’Bannon v. NCAA lawsuit. Since then, fans have been reduced to buying a generic Penn State jersey with the No. 1 or the year. Those days seem to be over, as fans can finally sport their favorite players on their backs.
