Penn State To Host Town Hall Addressing Tuition Rates September 14

Penn State will host its first town hall of the fall semester on Wednesday, September 14. University leaders will address this year’s operating budget and tuition rates in a virtual Q&A format. The event will livestreamed and archived for repeat viewing.

President Neeli Bendapudi will host a town hall at 9 a.m. on September 14 for faculty and staff. She’ll be joined by interim Executive Vice President and Provost Justin Schwartz, Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Sara Thorndike, and interim Vice President for Human Resources Jennifer Wilkes.

They will provide an update on the university’s budget outlook and the steps being taken to have a balanced budget by 2025. Faculty and staff can submit their questions in advance here.

Later that day, Bendapudi will host a second town hall at 11 a.m. for students and families. Joining her is Vice President for Government and Community Relations Zack Moore, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims, and Thorndike.

These leaders will provide context about the budget process and challenges, as well as how those factors are impacting tuition. Students and families are encouraged to submit their questions in advance.

In July, the Board of Trustees voted to raise tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year. No in-state or out-of-state undergraduate students with household incomes of $75,000 or less see a tuition increase, though.

In-state undergrads who attend Penn State’s University Park and Commonwealth Campuses see a tuition increase of 5% and 2%, respectively. Out-of-state undergrads at University Park see a 6% increase, and Commonwealth Campus undergrads see a 3% increase. You can check out the full breakdown here.
