The Nick Singleton hype is real.

The Penn State football running back has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following his breakout performance against Ohio. It’s the second straight week a Nittany Lion has taken home a weekly Big Ten football honor, as Sean Clifford earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his play against Purdue.

This is the first time a Penn Stater has won Big Ten Freshman of the Week since 2020 when Joey Porter Jr. earned the weekly honor after his performance against Rutgers.

Singleton put on an absolute show in front of a packed Beaver Stadium crowd on Saturday. The true freshman gashed Ohio’s defense for 179 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries. His first career touchdown was a 70-yard run late in the first quarter.

His second touchdown of the day was a 44-yarder in the third quarter that saw Singleton bounce the run to the outside and then turn on the burners to fly past the Bobcats’ defense.

Singleton set a Penn State record for a Beaver Stadium debut with his 179 rushing yards.

Singleton and the Nittany Lions will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
