UPUA Confirms Two New Representatives, Funds Subscriptions To Calm App

The 17th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met once again Wednesday night to swear in some representatives and pass two pieces of legislation.

The assembly was treated to a special presentation from Becca Geiger from the Gender and Equity Center. Her presentation focused on bystander intervention and sexual violence prevention.

UPUA President Sydney Gibbard then gave her report, and then the assembly moved into new business.

New Business

The first topic was the confirmation of Arts and Architecture Representative Tori Monroe. She talked about her involvement in protests, how she plans to bring those experiences into UPUA, and what her plans are to connect her college and UPUA to make change in the campus community. She was confirmed unanimously.

After Monroe got confirmed, she and fellow representative Cydney Brown were sworn in.

Then, the assembly brought forward Bill #07-17, which focused on providing students a subscription to the Calm App. The app centers on mental health practices, including meditation. The bill pays for 600 memberships, totaling $7,632. The bill passed unanimously.

Finally, Bill #08-17 was brought forward. The bill centered on free resume printing for Fall Career Days. It would cover the printing of 4,000 resumes, which costs $520 in total. The bill passed unanimously.

“I wanted to take on this role was because I knew I would be the first openly transgender vice president that UPUA has ever had. For me, that was what connected to why I joined UPUA originally in the first place.”
