Staff Picks: What Brand Of Beer Should Be Sold In Beaver Stadium?

Raise your glass and have a drink for Penn State football…inside of Beaver Stadium?

Penn State Athletics is considering selling alcohol in Beaver Stadium, and it has us thinking about what kind of alcohol will be sold. From fan-favorite beer to local IPAs, our staff has some thoughts on what could be coming to the concourses.

Frankie Marzano: Blue Stripe

What could be more Penn State football than a beer with the signature Penn State navy blue helmet stripe? I’m not going to lie, the beer isn’t my favorite. But drinking an ice-cold Blue Stripe while watching the blue and white in the student section is a straight-up vibe. It doesn’t get better than that.

Colleen Nersten: Antifragile’s Fluffy Little Puppy

I’m an Antifragile groupie, and so what? It’s the best beer you can find in State College. After opening back in April, the brewery has recently started to release limited cans, and Beaver Stadium’s potential alcohol trial period is the perfect chance to allow other Penn State fans to join the cult following. Sure, one IPA might send you to the hospital after a day of tailgating, but that’s life! Beaver Stadium, please give us what we want: Fluffy Little Puppy in honor of our QB1, The Big Red Dog.

Devon Craley: Angry Orchard

Nothing would be a better seasonal fit than Angry Orchard. Sitting in Beaver Stadium watching football while drinking a hard apple cider on a fall afternoon is too perfect for it not to happen. While I like classic beers such as Bud Light, Miller Light, and Budweiser, I think that football, fall, and hard cider go together too well.

Ryan Parsons: Allagash White

Nothing says football like fall, nothing says fall like a wheat beer, and nothing says wheat beer like Allagash White. My goodness, my mouth is just watering thinking about sipping on a delicious Belgian-style cold one on a crisp September day. I’m not sure if journalistic ethics permit this, but they should really just put a keg of this stuff in the press box. Since Allagash White is just 5.2%, I could see myself drinking two of these at halftime and writing the best sidebar of my life.

However, I would only like to see this beer under the condition that Beaver Stadium opts for Pennsylvania breweries like Axemann, New Trail, Antifragile, and Shy Bear, first and foremost. Once we have the local guys taken care of, we can bring in the big guns.

Tobey Prime: Yuengling

I think Beaver should have Yuengling on tap this weekend. Since I turned 21, it’s been my go-to at the bars, and I’d love for it to be my go-to at the stadium. Plus, it’s a Pennsylvania beer, so it just makes sense. If I can’t get this lager at Beaver Stadium, I will be very upset. At just 4% ABV, it’s a small enough percentage not to have me puking in the bathroom but still allows me to keep my buzz from the tailgate lots.

Dana Nunemacher: White Claw

AIN’T NO LAWS WHEN YOU’RE DRINKING CLAWS!

As a White Claw enthusiast (minus mango…gross), I believe White Claw pairs well with ANY event. Having a good day? Claw. Having a bad day? Claw. Want to watch the Nittany Lions lead their way to a victory? Claw. I cannot picture a more beautiful sight than sitting down with my White Claw Enthusiast Mother™ and enjoying a crisp sip from the comfort of our seats. For the sake of basic girls everywhere, give us the Claw. Cheers to you, Beaver Stadium!

Grace Cunningham: Blue Moon

I truly can’t think of a better drink to enjoy in Beaver Stadium than a crispy Blue Moon. What more could you want? It’s blue! However, as much as I would love to sip on a Blue Moon while watching the Nittany Lions, my intuition tells me that it will be something else. Since Bud Light is the official beer sponsor of the NFL, I figure they’d love to get into college football, too. Time will tell!
