UPUA Hears From Greek Life Leadership, Confirms New Representatives

The 17th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met Wednesday night to hear from some speakers and confirm several representatives.

To kick off the meeting, the assembly had some guest speakers. Doug Campbell from the Interfraternity Council, Sam Browne from the Panhellenic Council, and Nicole Pinto from the Multicultural Greek Council each spoke about their roles in Greek life on campus and their goals for their individual organizations. Each speaker raised issues that UPUA should continue to be aware of, including concerns with hazing in fraternities and housing in sororities.

UPUA President Sydney Gibbard gave her weekly report, followed by Vice President Carter Gangl’s first report. The assembly then moved into new business.

New Business

First, the assembly held an election for the Chair of the Committee on Justice and Equity. The only nomination was Breslin Toles, who spoke about her qualifications for the position, which included her previous position as vice chair of the committee. Toles was confirmed unanimously for the position.

Next up was the confirmation of At-Large Representatives Amber Gordon and Andrew Jackson. Each gave a speech about their individual passions and what they could bring to UPUA. They were both then sworn in.

Wednesday’s meeting concluded with brief reports given by the chief justice of the Judicial Board, the chief of staff, and the speaker of the assembly.
