Transfer Portal Roundup: Week Five

After its narrow 17-7 victory over Northwestern, No. 10 Penn State football is 5-0.

While some Nittany Lions had productive days, they weren’t the only ones around college football who did so. Here’s a look at how former Penn Staters fared across the country on Saturday.

Will Levis, Kentucky

Despite their best efforts, Will Levis and No. 7 Kentucky fell to No. 14 Ole Miss on Saturday. The former Penn Stater threw for two touchdowns and 220 yards, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the Wildcats’ first loss of the season.

Despite nearly securing a late victory, Levis lost the ball on a strip sack late in the fourth quarter to seal defeat.

Kentucky will return home to play South Carolina next week, as it hopes to take down an unranked opponent.

Noah Cain, LSU

Although LSU was able to defeat Auburn 21-17, Cain’s streak of flashy performances came to an end.

Cain only managed five carries, which he turned into 21 yards — still an average of 4.2 yards per carry. On the season, Cain now claims 189 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. As the team’s second-most productive running back, he’ll likely get a chance to bounce back against Tennessee next week.

Tyler Rudolph, UMass

Rudolph put together a solid defensive performance in a 20-13 loss to Eastern Michigan. The sophomore recorded his first NCAA interception, along with nine total tackles, including four that were solo.

Rudolph’s Penn State and current UMass teammate Cam Sullivan-Brown had a quieter day, but he did also log entries in the stat column. The wide receiver recorded a lone catch for 10 yards.

Next week, the Minutemen face Liberty as heavy underdogs as they try to find their second win of the season.

Mac Hippenhammer, Miami (Ohio)

Boasting one of the coolest names in college football, Hippenhammer put together a strong showing for his Redhawks. Despite losing 24-20 to Buffalo, the wide receiver caught four passes for 90 yards, leading all receivers in the game.

Miami (Ohio) will try to rebound to an even record next week against Kent State at home at 3:30 p.m.

Justin Shorter, Florida

Shorter and the Gators earned a win this weekend, beating Eastern Washington 52-17. Shorter led all receivers from both sides in receiving yards, catching a touchdown for 75 yards on his only catch in the game.

The Gators will travel to Missouri next week at noon to face off against a team that nearly took down then-No. 1 Georgia.
