Penn State Thespians Society Presents ‘The Addams Family’

“They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky.”

The Penn State Thespian Society will present “The Addams Family” at the Schwab Auditorium from October 13 to 15 in a show based on the novel by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. However, the newer rendition of the age-old classic includes a modern, love-story twist.

The show highlights Wednesday Addams, the princess of darkness, and her new boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, as the two attempt to introduce their families to one another over dinner. But there is an important setback — the Beinekes exist as a normal, perfect family, while the Addams’ seek the grotesque and macabre side of others.

With the help of her father Gomez Addams, Wednesday tries to have a perfect family dinner and “one normal night” to unite the pair of families together.

“We’ve been working on the show for seven weeks,” Grace O’Sullivan, the show’s director, said. “We started interviews back in July and started rehearsing the first week of the semester.”

The cast and crew have been working tirelessly to make this show a complete production. In the end, they’re hoping their overall effort is evident by the final performance.

“A challenge was definitely the time constraint. We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, so every rehearsal really counted.” Peyton Thiem, who plays Morticia Addams, said. “The choreography was also a challenge to learn.”

Tickets are now on sale. Student tickets are $4.98 (with a Penn State ID), children’s tickets are $4.99, and adult tickets are $12. Showing times are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. from October 13 to 15.
