Penn State Athletics Rehires White Out Creator Guido D’Elia As Consultant

Guido D’Elia, the creator of Penn State’s original White Out, has been rehired by the university to serve as a consultant, according to a Penn State Athletics spokesperson.

While working as Penn State’s director of football branding & communications, D’Elia pioneered the Nittany Lions’ introduction of the White Out in 2004 and the recurring presence of Zombie Nation. Under D’Elia’s gameday regime, Penn State was dubbed the “Greatest Show in College Football” by Sports Illustrated.

D’Elia’s LinkedIn profile describes him as having been “responsible for live game day production and orchestration of the fan experience inside and out of [Beaver Stadium].”

D’Elia’s first day on the job will fittingly come Saturday, according to a report from the Altoona Mirror, as Penn State football takes on Minnesota in the 2022 White Out.

In 2012, D’Elia’s tenure with the university came to an end, though he briefly returned in 2014 as an adjunct instructor in the Bellisario College of Communications.

Before the relieving of his duties, D’Elia was a critical fixture in many notable Penn State events, including the organization of the public portions of legendary head coach Joe Paterno’s funeral arrangements.

According to his website, D’Elia’s clients include Rutgers, Alabama, and Arkansas, among others.
