[Photo Story] Penn State Iranian Student Association Hosts Solidarity Rally

At 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, the Iranian Student Association hosted a ceremony in the HUB, a march, and a rally at Old Main to advocate and stand in solidarity with the people of Iran amid widespread protests and arrests.

These protests are taking place in Iran in response to the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini. Amini died while in Iranian police custody after being arrested for allegedly failing to wear her hijab in alignment with government standards.

The event began at the stairs in the HUB.

Students and community members played music, performed, and symbolically removed masks while holding on to a banner that displayed Amini and others lost during the protests.

The group then moved from the HUB and marched toward Old Main.

Despite the gloomy weather, a large crowd gathered in solidarity.

The group chanted “Say her name / Mahsa Amini.”

The students and community members stomped and clapped along to songs at the rally. Multiple speakers also gave speeches in front of the crowd.
