Joey Porter Jr. Named AP Second-Team All-American

As his time in Happy Valley winds down, Joey Porter Jr. keeps getting recognition for his outstanding season.

The redshirt junior cornerback was named to the Associated Press All-American second-team on Monday. Porter was the only Nittany Lion on any of the AP’s All-American teams after Penn State saw three players named in 2021.

This is not the first season-encompassing recognition Porter has received this year. In later November, he was named first-team All-Big Ten by both coaches and media.

This season, Porter totaled 11 pass breakups and 27 tackles. Six of those breakups came against Purdue, after which Porter was challenged significantly less.

Following the conclusion of the 2022 regular season, the defensive back announced that he would forgo his final year of NCAA eligibility and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. He will not play in the Rose Bowl on January 2, 2023.
