Punter Riley Thompson Announces Transfer To Penn State

Penn State’s next punter may be on his way, folks.

Riley Thompson, a freshman punter at Florida Atlantic University, announced his transfer to the Nittany Lions on Saturday with one season of eligibility remaining.

The 6’1″ and 215-pound Australia native was recently named a freshman All-American by both The Athletic and College Football News. His transfer comes as graduate student punter Barney Amor’s time winds down in Happy Valley.

With Florida Atlantic, Thompson was the only player to take punts on the team. He averaged 45.4 yards per punt and recorded his longest punt at 71 yards. By comparison, Amor averaged 43.9 yards per kick, with the longest punt totaling 59 yards.

FAU failed to qualify for a bowl game, so the next game that Thompson suits up for will be for Penn State. Thompson will still have to compete with freshmen Alex Bacchetta and Gabriel Nwosu for the starting job.
