Penn State Legend Trace McSorley To Start For Cardinals December 25

Penn State legend and now-Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley is slated to start at quarterback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.

McSorley gets the nod after interim starter Colt McCoy, who filled in for Kyler Murray, was ruled out with a concussion, which he sustained in last week’s 24-15 loss to the Denver Broncos. McSorley entered the game and completed 7-of-15 pass attempts for 95 yards and two interceptions.

In four appearances this season, McSorley owns a 51.7 completion percentage, has 166 passing yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions.

McSorley spent four seasons at Penn State from 2015 to 2018, starting three of the campaigns. The Ashburn, Virginia, native threw 77 touchdowns, 25 interceptions, and totaled 9,899 passing yards, which is second-most in program history.

McSorley was selected with the No. 197 overall pick in the 6th round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent 2019 and 2020 with the Ravens before signing with the Cardinals this season. Sunday’s game marks McSorley’s first career start.

When McSorley takes the field Sunday, it’ll be the first time a Penn State quarterback starts an NFL game since Matt McGloin did so back on January 1, 2017.

McSorley’s first career start is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 25.
