Pat Narduzzi Ranks Penn State Lowest Among Coaches Poll Participants

The Penn State-Pitt “rivalry” is alive and well, folks.

The final college football Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday, and James Franklin and Pitt’s head coach, Pat Narduzzi, made sure to try to keep the rivalry going.

Narduzzi ranked Penn State No. 9 in the nation, the lowest of any coach in the poll. Narduzzi placed the Nittany Lions behind the likes of Washington, Tennessee, and Clemson. Of those teams, only Tennessee finished ahead of Penn State in the final AP Poll.

Franklin didn’t rank Pitt at all. He was one of 19 coaches to leave the Panthers out of the top 25 after they beat UCLA 37-35 in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. However, Franklin did place the Bruins at No. 21 on his list.

Both schools finished higher in the AP Top 25 Poll than their “rival” coaches ranked them. Penn State finished at No. 7, while Pitt landed at No. 22.

Over the rivalry’s history, the two teams have played each other 83 times over the course of more than 107 years. Penn State is 53-43-4 all-time against Pitt and won the last matchup in 2019 by a score of 17-10. There are no future games planned between the two teams.
