Jake Pinegar To Forgo Sixth Season, Declare For NFL Draft

After five years as a Nittany Lion, Jake Pinegar is moving on.

Despite having the option for a sixth season of eligibility, Penn State football’s kicker announced his intentions to pursue a career in the NFL Saturday morning, writing “it is time for the next chapter in my life.”

Pinegar finished his Penn State career with some of the program’s best place-kicking numbers, including the all-time most extra points made. His 49 made field goals place him at fourth all-time in the team’s history, and his 342 points scored is good enough for second all-time.

Pinegar converted 73.1% of his attempted field goals in his career and all but seven of his 202 attempted extra points. The Iowa native also finished his career with two All-Big Ten honorable mentions and three Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Pinegar’s journey through Penn State wasn’t always smooth, and the 2022-23 season was no different. Despite a difficult start to the season, Pinegar rebounded and became a force for the Nittany Lions on special teams.

Pinegar is not currently projected to be selected in the NFL Draft on any notable draft boards, and could very well enter the NFL as an undrafted free agent.
