Abdul Carter & Nick Singleton Named To FWAA Freshman All-American Team

The awards won’t stop coming in for the freshmen, folks.

Abdul Carter and Nick Singleton were named to the Football Writers Association of America’s Freshman All-American team last week.

This isn’t the first time that either of these players has seen national recognition.

After tallying 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles, Carter was named to true freshman All-American teams by ESPN, 247Sports, Pro Football Focus, and On3. College Football News and the FWAA made him a Freshman All-American. Carter also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors by the media and the third team by coaches.

Singleton, who was listed by the association as “all-purpose” instead of a running back, rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns while also totaling 85 receiving yards and one touchdown. He earned true freshman All-American distinction from On3 and 247, while College Football News made him a Freshman All-American. He was also named Big Ten Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors by coaches and players.

The duo made up two of five Big Ten selections from the FWAA. They were joined by Gabe Jacas (Illinois), Jaishawn Barham (Maryland), and Jaylin Lucas (Indiana).
