Four-Star Offensive Lineman Jaelyne Matthews Commits To Penn State Football’s Class Of 2025

The Class of 2025 is already preparing to come to Happy Valley, folks.

The Nittany Lions secured the verbal commitment of four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews Monday morning, as announced by the recruit during an Instagram livestream. The Toms River North High School is Penn State’s first commitment from the Class of 2025.

The commitment comes after Matthews visited Penn State’s Junior Day for recruits on Saturday, January 28. Several Penn State outlets predicted Matthews’ commitment soon after the event.

Matthews selected the Nittany Lions over heavy competition, including the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, and Miami, among others.

Clocking in at 6’5″ and 290 pounds, Matthews is rated as New Jersey’s top recruit and the fifth-best offensive tackle in his class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. The outlet is also listed as the 60th-best player at any position across the country in the Class of 2025.

Matthews’ decision marks the third consecutive Nittany Lion recruiting class that has kicked off with an offensive lineman. In July 2021, Alex Birchmeier became Penn State’s first Class of 2023 commit, and six months later Cooper Cousins launched the team’s Class of 2024 with his commitment.
