Penn State To Host Student ID Re-Carding Events Beginning March 20

Penn State students will have the opportunity to receive their new student ID cards beginning March 20 through April 7. The cards aim to foster a more user-friendly experience and feature a contactless reader.

Those eligible for new id+ cards were notified through their university email addresses to submit an updated photo in November. Students who received an updated university ID after May 10, 2022, will not need to participate in the event.

Re-carding events will occur in HUB 020 on a schedule of groupings based on students’ last names:

  • A-F: March 20 and April 3
  • G-L: March 21 and April 4
  • M-R: March 22 and April 5
  • S-Z: March 23 and April 6

Similar to existing debit and credit cards, the new student IDs will feature contactless technology. The feature will allow students to tap, rather than swipe, to use meal plans, enter residence halls, or use LionCash funds.

Penn State also reserved dates on March 24 and April 7 for any student to receive their id+ card regardless of their last name grouping.

Students should bring their old university IDs to their scheduled event to turn in and receive their updated id+ card. New id+ cards distributed without handing in an outdated university ID will require a re-carding fee.
