Five Penn State Women’s Hockey Players Earn All-CHA Honors

Penn State continued its dominance of the CHA after five players earned All-CHA honors for their performances in the 2022 season, as announced Tuesday.

Junior Kiara Zanon, senior Izzy Heminger, and freshman Tessa Janecke were all named to the All-CHA first team. Zanon was earned her third consecutive CHA first-team nod, while Heminger and Janecke were each awarded for the first time.

Elsewhere, junior Lyndie Lobdell was named to the All-CHA second team, and both Janecke and Kendall Butze were named to the All-Rookie team.

Zanon’s distinction came on the heels of a historic campaign which saw her break the single-season records for both goals scored and points recorded, tallying 25 goals and 23 assists.

Heminger, one of three defenders named to All-CHA teams from Penn State, had a similarly stellar season. Heminger was named the CHA Defensive Player of the Week three times and CHA defensive Player of the Week twice.

Pick any freshman record on the books at Penn State and chances are Janecke, a newly named All-CHA first-team and All-Rookie team member, broke it this season. Janecke broke freshman program records for goals, assists, and points.

Lobdell was a key part of the Nittany Lions defense this season, with a team-leading 65 blocks while tallying two goals and 14 assists. Butze, the team’s third defender honored, entered a breakout rookie season, recording two goals and 17 assists.

The Nittany Lions return to Pegula Ice Arena at 2 p.m. on March 4, where they will face Mercyhurst in the CHA Championship.
