Penn State Centre Stage To Present ‘Emilia’ From April 11 To 22

Penn State Centre Stage will present its newest production, “Emilia,” at 7:30 p.m. from April 11 to 22 at the Pavilion Theatre. There will be an additional show at 2 p.m. on the production’s final day.

“Emilia” depicts the life of Emilia Lanier, a feminist poet who wrote controversial poems about women’s rights during a time when it was frowned upon. Lanier lived in Bishopsgate, London, England during the English Renaissance period.

Morgan Lloyd Malcolm wrote “Emilia,” which was performed for the first time in 2018 at Shakespeare’s Globe. Jenny Lamb will direct Penn State’s adaption of the play. Notably, “Emilia” will not feature any male actors. The show on April 19 is part of Penn State’s efforts to raise awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Evening performances at 7:30 p.m. are $20, while previews and matinees are $18.50. Tickets for students at all shows are $12.50. Visit the event’s website to purchase tickets.
