‘Chad Powers’ Prank Video Nominated For Webby Award
Two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning and his show “Eli’s Places” was recently nominated for a Webby Award under the category of best sports general video.
The video follows Manning, while he goes undercover as “Chad Powers,” attempting to earn a walk-on run-on spot on the Nittany Lions’ football team. Powers’ journey as a Penn State run-on is one of five nominations for the award.
The video quickly went viral, picking up 14 million views on ESPN’s YouTube page in the six months since its release. The legend of Chad Powers became so popular within the Penn State football community that the team began selling “think fast, run fast” t-shirts –– in honor of Powers’ mantra –– with portions of every sale going towards future Penn State run-ons.
The Webby Awards annually recognize achievement in various online spaces. Past noteworthy winners include Amazon, eBay, Airbnb, The Onion, Justin Bieber, and Humans of New York. Award recipients traditionally give five-word acceptance speeches.
Fans of Chad Powers can vote for the prank video on the Webby Awards’ website. Voting will be open until April 20.
