Penn State African Students Association To Host ‘Touch Of Africa’ Event April 23

Penn State’s African Students Association will host “Touch of Africa,” an annual cultural event that displays and educates the community about the diverse cultures within Africa, on Sunday, April 23, at the Bryce Jordan Center.

This year’s event, “Afrotopia,” will feature a dinner, live artists, student performances, and a fashion show. Tickets are $25 for students, $35 for the public, and $63 for a VIP pass. Doors open at 4 p.m. when the cocktail lounge opens and will close at 5 p.m.

Beninese-born Nigerian singer Ayra Starr will headline the event. Starr gained international recognition in 2022 with the release of her song “Rush,” which charted at No. 24 on the UK Billboard. The 20-year-old songwriter also boasts 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

“This year’s theme, AFROTOPIA was coined from Afro-futurism and utopia,” a description read. “These two expressions are focal points for the rebirth of the African dream: a place of utter bliss and reinvention.”

The event will be hosted by Nigerian dancer and host Amarachi, who will be joined by Ghanaian host and influencer Ini Cash. Dj Bukz will provide music for the event.
