Mike Rhoades continues to fill out his roster.

Penn State men’s basketball picked up the commitment of Lafayette graduate transfer Leo O’Boyle, the forward announced on Instagram Tuesday.

“Bet on yourself, work hard, and the sky is the limit,” O’Boyle wrote in his commitment post.

O’Boyle was a relatively unknown prospect coming out of high school. The Pennsylvania native attended Lafayette after playing high school ball at Scranton Prep, where he was a three-time District 2 AAAA champion and was named to the All-State second team and the All-Region team.

The forward first arrived at Lafayette for the 2019-20 season, where he immediately made an impact. O’Boyle started in 12 games his freshman season and recorded 219 points while shooting at a 39.3% clip from the field. After the 2019-20 campaign, O’Boyle was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie team.

A shortened 2020-21 season didn’t slow O’Boyle from developing for the Leopards. In his second season, O’Boyle started in 14 of Lafayette’s 15 games while averaging 8.5 points per game. He also was the second-best three-point shooter on the roster, knocking down 26 shots from beyond the arc.

O’Boyle’s minutes with the Leopards continued to increase in his third season, as he started in all 30 games for Lafayette. O’Boyle was also one of the best all-around players on the team and recorded the fifth-most steals, the second-most three-point attempts and three-point conversions, and the fourth-most points on the roster.

In his final season with Lafayette, O’Boyle really demonstrated his strengths. The senior started in 32 games for the Leopards while recording over 1,000 minutes. He finished the season with 384 points and 53 assists as he led Lafayette to its first Patriot League championship game in recent history. O’Boyle finished his time with Lafayette with 1,027 points, 147 assists, and 71 steals while shooting 39.4% from the field over the course of his collegiate career.

O’Boyle joins a Penn State squad that has already brought in five other transfers to fill several voids in a depleted roster following Micah Shrewsberry’s departure. O’Boyle’s commitment was preceded by the likes of Ace Baldwin Jr., Puff Johnson, Qudus Wahab, Zach Hicks, and Nick Kern Jr.
